Shipbreaker by Paolo Bacigalupi

Nailer is a teenager who earns a living stripping copper from grounded oil tankers. He lives a tough and violent life in a world destroyed by global warming. One day he finds a clipper ship destroyed by a hurricane and, in it, a rich and privileged girl. His decision to save her leads him on an adventure that makes him question his life.

An enjoyable and fast moving dystopian and fantasy adventure. The setting is unusual and fascinating and the struggle Nailer faces deciding what is important in life – loyalty, friendship or money – is believable and interesting. A long book and a good read.
