Boys Don’t Knit by Tom Easton

Ben has problems everywhere – bullies at school, parents who embarrass him, a father who doesn’t understand him, friends who get him into trouble and girls who don’t notice him. A dreadful misunderstanding ends up with him needing to complete a set number of obligations in order to avoid being sent to a Young Offender’s unit. That’s how Ben ends up at knitting class. He actually finds it enjoyable and is very good at it; the problem is, he can’t tell anyone about it. It’s just too embarrassing.

The book is perhaps a bit over the top in parts and perhaps a bit unrealistic – but who cares? It is a great read and a hilarious read. Ben recounts his story in an engaging and humorous way and it is so refreshing to find a YA book which makes you want to laugh. The book is a straightforward read and will put you in a great mood.
