Since You’ve Been Gone by Morgan Matson

Emily’s best friend, Sloane, has left town without notice and Emily is lost. She has always lived in Sloane’s shadow and Sloane has given Emily the courage to do things. Now all Emily has is a ‘to do’ list that Sloane has sent her – thirteen tasks that will take Emily out of her comfort zone. It is a struggle for Emily to attempt some of the tasks but as she progresses she finds herself becoming more confident and she starts making new friends who help her achieve her goals and to realise that not everyone is as confident or together as the image they project.

A story about learning to be yourself, to take some risks, to trust people and make the most of life. At times the story is a little slow as it follows a gentle pace, occasionally flashing back to give the reader a better understanding of Emily and Sloane’s friendship. The romance element is not the dominant part of the book but is a subtle and gentle part of the story.
