A Court of Thorns and Roses by @SJMaas – Book Review

Shades of Beauty and the Beast – get lost in a fantasy romance.

Feyre’s family has hit hard times and she is reduced to hunting for food so they can survive. One day she kills a deer and a wolf, unaware that the wolf is a faerie. As punishment she is taken to the faerie world. She is not held prisoner and yet neither is she free to leave. The longer she stays, the more she reevaluates her feelings for the magical world and for her captor, the enigmatic Tamlin. As passion replaces hate, Feyre realises that whilst here is a lot she doesn’t know and understand about Tamlin and his world, she has a part to play in its future.

This is the first book in a new series by SJ Maas, author of Throne of Glass. In this book, she has created an intriguing and mystical world, filled with astonishing creatures and stunning scenery. Feyre is a tough girl, yet she is also caring, loving and believable. Tamlin and the other faeiries in the book, whilst magical and unworldly, are infused with feelings that make them likeable and human. There is plenty of adventure and intrigue in this book to keep the reader enthralled but SJ Maas excels at building the tension between characters and developing passionate relationships that the reader can both believe in and dream about.
