Carnegie Nominations 2014

The 2014 nominations for the Carnegie Medal have been released and it is an impressive list. There are over seventy books on the list and it includes some impressive titles covering a wide range of interests.

Fourteen of the book are reviewed on the BT&M website and it is true to say that I enjoyed them all. It is going to be a tough job to cut the list down to a long list, a short list and then the final winner.

I do have favourites though and I very much hope that Phil Earle’s book Heroic makes it to the shortlist. The book was inspired by a favourite of mine: The Outsiders by S.E.Hinton. The story follows 16-year-old Sonny as he copes tries to be the man of the house whilst brother being is in Afghanistan . Sonny finds it hard, but its harder still when his brother comes home, plagues by the events he witnessed whilst in the army.
